March 9, 2002Senator Mark Montigny Presented with Wheelhouse Award
State
Senator Mark Montigny was the guest of honor at our Annual Meeting on March
9, 2002. He was recognized for his work in securing funding for the Fishing
Partnership Health Plan.
"Senator Mark Montigny has championed the concerns of fishermen and
their families throughout Massachusetts. He played a leadership role in the
establishment of the Massachusetts Fisheries Recovery Commission to help
promote better fisheries research. As a result of a budget initiative created
by the Senator, the Fishing Partnership Health Plan has received $2 million
in state funding for each of the past five years.
In this year's budget, Senator Montigny worked to ensure that the
legislature continue its allegiance to fishermen around the Commonwealth,
extending the state's financial commitment through June of 2004. This state
funding totaling $14 million aids the Partnership in providing 1700 fishermen
and their families with quality, affordable health care.
It is with great pleasure, enormous pride, and overwhelming gratitude
that the Massachusetts Fishermen's Partnership presents you, Senator with our
first-ever WHEELHOUSE AWARD for extraordinary efforts to safeguard fishing
families."
